Data Driven Testing in Test Complete (Part 1)

So far in Video series of Test Complete we saw many posts starting from Test complete IDE till Test Complete Name mapping. But today we are going to discuss one of the most important feature of Test complete called DDT (Data Driven Testing).

As our test grows bigger and bigger, we always need to isolate our test data with our actual scripts, also we don’t want to hard code our scripts with input data, hence Data driven Testing comes in to play.

With Test completes features in DDT, we can import data from varied data sources like

  • EXCEL
  • CSV
  • ADO Database Connectivity
  • XML etc.

In this post we are going to discuss on importing data from CSV file and EXCEL file.

Please check out the video demonstration below.

Creating and working with TestComplete Logs

In this post we are going to discuss about TestComplete Logs. Logging is one of the best feature available in Test Complete which helps Automation test engineer to keep track of the events, errors, warning along with and without Pictures.

Logs created in Test Complete can also be exported to a HTML file or to a CSV file or to an XML file.

We can also create custom log messages, log errors and organize the log files according to our needs as a folder structure.

Let’s see how to work in Test Complete log file in below video demonstration.

Name Mapping in TestComplete

In this section we are going to see Name mapping feature of TestComplete in action.

Namemapping is more like a Object Repository in Quick Test Professional. Namemapping holds all the objects of application under test (AUT) and lets user to edit/update the stored objects.

We can use name mapping to give meaningful names to the object and thereby helps in readability and maintainability of scripts.

Checkout the complete video demonstration of Name mapping below.
